Around the United States, the number of food allergy cases in children has been on the rise. To give you an idea, roughly two students per classroom suffers from food allergies. Another way to look at this is one out of every 13 children suffers from food allergies. Even more staggering, every three minutes a food allergy reaction sends someone to the hospital. That is over 200,000 emergency visits a year, of which the most common is due to peanut allergies.

Although most people suffer from mild to moderate symptoms (watery eyes, runny nose or rash), some suffer from more life-threatening allergic reaction know as anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis causes the body to go into shock, lowers blood pressure and can cause the patient’s airway to swell or close. If you suspect someone is going into anaphylaxis call 911 immediately.
