Asthma Team Saves Patient

Recently, a Central Valley patient was saved from an asthma attack thanks to a new “Asthma Team” in the central valley. The patient suffered from an asthma attack, causing her to pass out. Rushed to Community Regional Medical Center where doctors activated a new program called ECMO.

Most noteworthy, the ECMO program involves a unique device that takes blood out of the patient. The blood is circulated through the device, adding oxygen and removing carbon dioxide. After moving through this device the blood is then returned to the body. Within minutes the patient showed signs of improvement.

In addition, the ECMO device is new to the Central Valley is currently only found at Community Regional and Valley Children’s. As a result, this new technology will help provide patients with advanced care when it comes to asthma attacks.
